Denise Gilliam

Denise Gilliam has been a Local 1180 Member-At-Large since 2011, and has been a career civil servant for more than 30 years. She began her career with the NYC Department of Investigation, where she was elected as a Shop Steward, and as a Delegate of DC37 Local 1549. Denise has been a dedicated unionist since the early 1990s.

Denise served as a Shop Steward for the Department of Information and Technology (DoITT) from 2009 to 2011. She was then hired as a Local 1180 Staff Representative from 2011 to 2013. Denise is now the DoITT Shop Steward, where she keeps a watchful eye out for union members. She is involved in the Bronx Committee Coordinating Committee, is Chair of the 1180 Women’s Committee, and is a member of the Civil Service and Political Action committees.

Denise is a graduate of the AFL-CIO Cornell Union Leadership Institute. She sits on the National Executive Board of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), the Executive Board of the New York City CLUW, and Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), and is a Delegate for the NYC Central Labor Council and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
